Description
The gryphon Maur²’² Gùìrr, Èmké to humans, has moved his Aërie to Duntulm Castle on the Isle of Skye. Behind its ancient walls, his family should be safe.
Then, one night, an assassin scales the castle wall and enters the courtyard where Èmké’s young sons are playing. The man carries a high-powered handgun and has come prepared to kill. Èmké dispatches him quickly and cleanly, but the dead assassin leaves behind a far more dangerous question.
Who sent him?
Èmké is no ordinary target. He is the ranking member of the Gryphonic Federation, a being powerful enough to frighten governments and difficult enough to control that treaties, diplomacy, and mutual trust are the only things standing between cooperation and catastrophe. Any nation wishing him dead must know that failure could bring consequences far beyond one ruined assassination attempt.
As Èmké searches for the hand behind the gunman, the trail reaches across borders, governments, and international institutions. Officials conceal what they know, loyalties become uncertain, and every answer exposes another layer of the conspiracy.
Someone has decided that Èmké, his sons, and perhaps every gryphon must be removed.
The assassin failed.
The people who sent him may not.
